Intro
Produced by Insomniax of Dare Media
A myriad of real thoughts, reflection and comments on relationships from people living in the UK and Canada. Their mini statements were perfect introductions to the themes on the album. It may be hard to hear at first, but keep listening, and it will soon become crystal clear.
Season of Lost Love
Produced by Self Taught of First Love Music
I like to address subjects from the root to the fruit, it’s the real reason why so many of my poems are so long. I didn't just want to start from the base of male and female interaction, but rather from the base of who we are culturally, as a people and how our interaction with history and culture affect us. For that may directly correlate to how we view our counterparts of the opposite sex, and that interaction (whether its positive or negative) may change how they relate to other people of the opposite sex. Though, when all the questions of whom they are vanish. They are left with a desire to just wanting to be happy, nothing else is as important. I try to understand that, rather than judge it.
Too Late for my Soul Mate: The Promise
Music taken from Zero 7 recorded at Dare Media
This was my first relationship type poem. I actually published this poem in my book The Way of the Word. It was inspired by a young sister I met in Toronto who was starting to have relationships. She seemed to have a bundle of love for Black men, which seemed so natural. I looked at her and then envisioned how that love could erode over time.
When she found out I was a poet, she asked me to write her a poem, and this is what came. I saw her years later and she told me she was becoming the lady I wrote about. I still thank you for the inspiration and I pray for a better ending in your real life story.
A Poets’ Tale
Produced by Self Taught of First Love Music
Ask any artist, not just a poet. The vocation is a love hate relationship. We love the life but often times struggle with the finance. Sometimes, this struggle produces real art. And with me it created A Poets' Tale. Once the euphoria of the industry wore off. I found myself at a space all artists' will go through. So as much as it is a story of a Poet. It’s really a tribute to all artists.
Politically Personal (4P’s) featuring J’nay
Acoustic guitar by J’nay co-produced by Self Taught of First Love Music
J'nay is my favourite UK singer. He has the unique ability to not just sing well, but also touch you with his words and voice. I remember he did a performance at Brixton art gallery. And it was like having a superstar in your midst. He allowed himself to be vulnerable and emote love songs that were deeply personal. Subconsciously it impacted on me. Soon after, I wrote this piece. Political, Personal, Poetical, Poem. This was the first piece I had done that really discussed perceived short comings in my relationship with Women. It was scary, I performed it once at Soul Food in 2005 and I said never again.
However when I revisited it, I was at a different place. I was able to secure J'nay after another artist had flopped on me. I was so grateful he did, because this poetical song is special. Thanks in most part to J'nay.
Other Side of the Fame featuring Kamau
Produced by Kamau recorded in Toronto, Canada
I flew all the way to Toronto to record this. I stayed with Kamau, heard some of his amazing work and we had this finished within the first 15 hours of me staying there. Almost from the plane to the recording studio. He was such a professional and so talented. I had always been a fan of his, so when he accepted my request to do this song together, I knew I had to come correct. I wanted to look at the industry from two sides. The underground artist VS the mainstream superstar. Both have different stories to tell, both would question what success is. So lets have them dialogue, its symbolically represented by the Poet and the Rapper.
Lost Love conversation (Interlude)
Produced by Insomniax of Dare Media
Some more insightful conversations. Again listen close, its all real. I love the cultural interchange, which for me emphasises how connected black people all over the world really are. In these conversations I had African-Americans, African-British (from the West Indies and Africa) Africa- Canadians from the same demographic, it was my favourite part of the process.
Too Late for My Soul Mate: The He-Mix
Produced by Insomniax of Dare Media
Go to most poetry events and a poet usually glorifies sisters, just like how I did on Too Late for My Soul Mate: The Promise. I recognise that. (And I recognise its importance) However, I also acknowledge that there are a number of good guys who have had horrific experiences with Black Women. I always felt an imbalance after I did The Promise. I knew I had to tell the other side, simply because it is hardly done. I didn't want to go down the road of insulting Women. But at the same time I had to be real.
Paradise Found (4 Amaya) ft Ivy Chanel
Produced by Scratch Professor of Up to Scratch Production
Beyond anything. I hope, each and every one of us understands self first and finds a love partner that can reflect the best of who we are. I hope for that for myself, family, community, people and ultimately humanity. Loneliness is nothing I would wish upon anyone. So I wanted to finish the journey of the album on a positive note. I hope we all find what we are looking for.
Bonus
Poetman’s Pilgrimage
Produced by Iron Braydz for Iron Chrome
So I wrote a poem for a hip hop duo named Poetic Pilgrimage. It has been sitting there for years. I have an alter ego named Poetman. A superhero, and his role is to build an army using poetry to combat this world. I wanted to weave him into this album, so I use him and Poetic Pilgrimage as a vehicle to really pay tribute to the strength of the enduring Woman. I was so happy they agreed to feature in it. It made a massive difference.

I can say I gave it my all....
