Tuggstar is an internationally recognised and respected performance poet, journalist, workshop facilitator and all round writer. He achieved a degree in History and Politics BA (hons) from Coventry University. He began writing for West Midlands student magazine Mainsource. Since then he has gone on to write for New African, Trace, Untold, Nex Generation et al. He is currently a columnist for New Nation newspaper, which is Britain’s best Black news weekly, and currently the only publication which features regular columns on spoken word poetry, (which Tuggstar edits.)
Tuggs.t.a.r has lived in Toronto, Canada where he gained invaluable experience as a performer and was able to hone his craft and become one of the most dynamic artists in the UK today. He merged many styles to present an uncompromising brand of inspiring poetry and story telling. His talent has taken him to Africa, Australia, Norway, Birmingham, Bristol, France and beyond.
As a performer he began getting numerous requests to partake in workshops at schools and youth centres. In 2003 he became a mentor for Origin youth development programme and has since gone on to become one of its facilitators. Under the guidance of their senior staff Tuggs.t.a.r has trained to specialise in delivering poetry workshop as well as issue driven presentations. This brand of workshop has enabled him to deliver workshops for primary schools, secondary schools and adults, from the UK, Canada and Ghana. His world view and global experience makes him an interesting workshop leader.
