ORIGIN (click here to link)

Origin is a Youth Development Programme for African and Caribbean males from the ages of 13-19. It is a one year programme that draws its foundation from African and Caribbean rites of passage traditions. I started as a mentor in 2003. Now I am one of the programmes facilitators.

The beauty of Origin is that it is a specialist programme specifically for young Black males that is able to successfully orientate the young people to the conventions of African culture albeit in an urban environment. (Akuah is the female programme)

The Origin ethos dictates that all workshops consist of Juice, Bass and Jazz.

JUICE: Being the fun aspect of a workshop through games, role plays and other challenges etc.

BASS: Being the foundation of the session. It should be a consistent underlying theme under which all the elements of the workshop are focused upon.

JAZZ: This is the philosophy and spirituality of what the session should be conveying, which is usually addressed in the conclusion.

Since working with Origin I have facilitated both small and large groups, from diverse backgrounds and ages. I have managed to Transfer the skills learned at Origin and infuse my understanding of languages, creative writing, performance and the social issues addressed through my poetry to make exciting and fun learning workshops.
