SEASON OF LOST LOVE PRESS RELEASE.... SEASON OF LOST LOVE PRESS RELEASE.... SEASON OF LOST LOVE PRESS...
The year has barely kicked in, but if poet Tuggs.t.a.r has anything to do with it, it looks like 2008 is set to be the Season of Lost Love.
SOLL is a refreshing album that delves into the controversial area of black male and female relationships through stories, commentary and critique. As an album, you couldn’t ask for more.
Tuggs.t.a.r hails from London’s underground Spoken Word community. He’s been a champion of the bubbling scene since 2001. Although the spoken word community is a tight knitted scene. SOLL has the quality to perk the ears of the music industry’s gatekeepers. It is undoubtedly the high end of the poetry scene.
As a social commentator, Tuggs.t.a.r manages to weave personal experiences with tales of tragic and triumph. In Politically Personal, featuring MOBO award winner J’nay, he tackles the difficulties men have in conveying true feelings. Too Late for my Soul Mate: The Promise ridicules many poems that exclaim love for their Black Queen! Instead he delves into the deeper feeling of resentment many black women have to their black male counterpart. He later unconventionally provides a rebuttal on The He-mix to allow men to explain their feelings of resentment. It’s this creativity, which Tuggstar uses throughout the album, which prevents this “Love” album from becoming corny.
Beyond Tuggs.t.a.r’s hypnotic words; in producing the album he recorded numerous conversations on relationships in both the UK and Canada. These are interjected as interludes. The added dimension gives SOLL an authenticity of reflecting the time; a hallmark of a true artist.
Running alongside the relationship theme, are the trials of being an artist. Tracks like A Poets’ Tale and The End provide a deep insight into the life of an independent artist. Beyond simply the lyrics, the production of Self Taught is so riveting, that along with the words, you are engaged by the precision of the music. The strength of SOLL is that you are never prepared for the next track, from the lyrical title track to the collaboration with Canadian rapper Kamau in Other Side of the Fame. Its diversity will satisfy the thirst of both Hip Hop heads, and your R&B/Soul fans.
If the entertainment industry needed a shake up; it’s possible that the person to shake it could be an exponent of the ancient tradition of spoken word. A poet. Maybe that person is Tuggs.t.a.r and maybe the album is Season of Lost Love.
